Position Summary

Marriott Vacations Worldwide (MVW) is seeking a passionate and dedicated professional to lead the Company’s global community relations and corporate philanthropy strategy as part of the Global Communications Center of Excellence (COE), a team focused on leading holistic and integrated communications strategy that builds brand and business reputation and maximizes impact among key stakeholders. The vision for the Global Communications team is to have a strong strategic thinker to identify areas of opportunity for the company to influence community impact strategies and engage in impactful philanthropic relationships at the corporate and local levels across the global MVW enterprise.

The Director, Community Relations & Corporate Philanthropy (Director), will serve to drive a thoughtful approach to finding synergies in our corporate citizenship opportunities across the business, and look to leverage resources, messaging and strategies across our brands and businesses to ultimately maximize value across the enterprise.

Expected Contributions

Reporting to the Vice President, Global Communications (Vice President), the Director, should demonstrate leadership in the following areas:

  • Cultivating and enriching partnerships with nonprofits organizations, trade associations, and regional chambers of commerce to position the brand as a thought leader and socially responsible organization.

  • Developing philanthropic campaigns, managing community engagement programs, and designing and executing on signature events for the company in partnership with internal teams such as Culture and Change Management, Internal Communications, and Resort Operations.

  • Developing and executing on comprehensive communications strategy to maximize storytelling impact of the Company’s corporate citizenship work to internal and external audiences.

Corporate Citizenship Strategy, Engagement & Campaign Execution

  • Responsible for driving the education and awareness of the Company’s corporate citizenship strategy.

  • Responsible for leading the Company’s relationships with flagship corporate philanthropic partners, cultivating relationships with those organizations at national and regional/local levels, as appropriate.

  • Identify opportunities to develop campaigns around corporate citizenship pillars to activate internally and externally.

  • Drive stratgies to engage with corporate and field associates and their leadership related to community impact.

  • Drive the integration of all of MVW’s business lines into the corporate citizenship strategy and identify regional engagement efforts that support the company’s goals.

  • Ensure tight alignment to MVW’s business lines and each of their individual KPIs for measuring corporate citizenship metrics.

  • Develop and execute on comprehensive communications plans for all community relations and philanthropic giving stories.

  • Collaborate with partners on internal communications, corporate communications, public relations, and social media to enhance and enrich storytelling opportunities.

  • Storyboard and conceptualize storytelling collateral to include videography, photography, key messaging, and interviews with internal and external talent.

  • Support the deployment of communications content through various vehicles including company-wide emails, internal Viva Engage site, social media, and print media.

Community Relations Engagement for Corporate & Local

  • Provide organizational expertise, counsel and support for major campaigns and initiatives that may have community relations tie.

  • Develop, deliver, and measure program performance for fundraising campaigns, increase associate volunteerism, support corporate responsibility strategies and accelerating the cultural transformation and inspiring associate engagement.

  • In partnership with the Vice President, execute on philanthropic and community relations storytelling to include identified causes and activities to touch internal and external audiences.

  • Development and execution of annual signaute events in partnership with Resort Operations, Communications, and Culture and Change Management.

  • Design and concept new innovative events and campaigns to engage associates, owners, members, and guests.

  • Identify and support the organization in developing regional stakeholder relationships such as chambers of commerce, local nonprofits, board opportunities, etc.

Corporate Responsibility Measurement, Reporting & Editorial Development

  • Support development of a data capturing platform for Corporate Responsibility evaluation and rating. Find the balance between enterprise-wide corporate campaigns and brand specific, business line narratives.

  • Assist in creation and execution of enterprise corporate responsibility report encompassing categories of environmental sustainability goals and accomplishments, philanthropy, community relations, inclusion and diversity and board governance and policies

  • Tracking tool development will include corporate donations, volunteerism hours, fundraising and in-kind donations of accommodations.

Stakeholder Management, Team Management & Budget Management

  • Serve on the Senior Leadership Team for Global Communications

  • Maintain a focus on elevating team’s performance and create and foster a caring culture and foster caring culture.

  • Have a laser focus on achieving measurable outputs and outcomes of communications campaigns and instill this discipline into team.

  • Apply a global mindset to work and align internal communications recommendations to specific audiences – region v. corporate v. field.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key internal and external business owners and senior management.

  • Partner with VP and support executive leadership on company community initiatives.

  • Support messaging needs of senior leadership related to respective charities the organization supports or they are involved in.

  • Provide financial input on department budget, expenditures or other costs estimates as requested, and develop budgets for community impact and corporate philanthropy programs and proactively managing allocated funds to expand financial acumen and budgeting experience.

  • Manage reporting quarterly and yearly reviews to make sure we are meeting goals and advising adjustments where necessary; communicating results, needs and necessary shifts with the business lines on a regular cadence.

General Operations

The Director will manage the development of an overall Community Relations & Corporate Philanthropy strategy as well as contributing to the company’s Corporate Responsibility initiatives.

  • Will leverage corporate business and brand narratives in support of the company’s overall reputation for caring and giving within the communities that we live and work.

  • Is responsible for building external partnership with identified causes and corporate partner/supplier relationships, and will lead the work to develop, deliver, and measure programs for optimum performance and goal setting.

The Director will create compelling campaigns that resonate a caring culture across our global enterprise. These campaigns will then support overall Culture and Talent and Acquisition initiatives to grow and retain our global workforce.

  • To collaborate with various MVW teams including Resort Operations, Marketing & Sales, Culture and Change Management, and Communications to leverage internal touchpoints for respective program awareness and performance.

Success requires excellent oral and written communication skills, a resilient and solution-focused spirit, an ability to be a self-starter and serve as an integrator and trusted advisor. Previous experience in large scale philanthropy, community engagement, public policy, and corporate responsibility programs is a must.

Candidate Profile

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or related field.

  • 7+ years’ experience with corporate responsibility support and program involvement a plus.

Experience

  • Experience in Hotel Management, Vacation Ownership, Hospitality preferred.

  • Experience in a matrix structured organization preferred.

  • Prior experience managing outside agencies, vendors, and budgets; prior agency experience a plus.

  • Experience managing relationships with nonprofits organizations, trade associations, and regional chambers of commerce.

  • Experience with designing philanthropic campaigns, managing community engagement programs, and designing and executing events.

  • Developing and executing on comprehensive communications strategy to maximize storytelling impact of the Company’s corporate citizenship work to internal and external audiences.

  • Travel required, including international. Approximately 20 -30% of the time.

  • Possesses strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks developing and using systems to organize and keep track of information.
